Order your WSIFF/New Mexico Film T-shirts now! http://www.hollywoodonceremoved.com/ The chromogenic print by Patrick Nagatani on front of t-shirt lends itself perfectly to the White Sands International Film Festival (WSIFF) with it’s location & message! New Mexico features endless such amazing locations for filming native!
The work is entitled , Missile Park, White Sands Missile Range, New Mexico 1989. From his Nuclear Enchantment series: Patrick Nagatani positions there a group of Koshare/Tewa ritual clowns, which he borrowed from the Frontier Restaurant in ABQ. With their convict-striped clothing & papier-mache “horns”, the Koshare look like a mixture of park guards, court jesters and priests. Through photographing, cutting, mounting and arranging, Nagatani has them dancing on the missile range, their gestures seeming to bless a sacred site, their costumes vying with the missiles that cut into the yellow heavens. We have to look closely for Nagatani’s signature in this image, but there it is, dead center, in the sign which reads: “Personal Photography Permitted”.
